Free hepatitis C screenings Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - From 7a.m. to 10a.m., and 2p.m. to 4p.m. Thursday afternoon St. Luke's Hospital is offering free, walk-in Hepatitis C screenings.

"Everyone can get tested, and should get tested," said Saint Luke's Sarah Rogge. "Hepatitis C most commonly occurs in 'baby boomers,' people born anywhere from 1945 to 1965."

The test consists of a finger prick and a short screening of the blood, which takes about twenty minutes, said Rogge. "Many people, especially in the early stages, aren't even realize they have it, it may not cause any symptoms," said Rogge. "As time goes on it can cause severe liver damage, it can lead to liver cancer."
