Incomplete Hepatitis C Investigation

The 'investigation remains incomplete' in the case of Minot's Hepatitis C outbreak.
That's according to a letter addressed to State Health Officer Dr. Terry Dwelle from Hepatitis Outbreaks' National Organization for Reform or HONOReform.
The group has taken an active role following the investigation conducted by the North Dakota Department of Health into the outbreak that infected at least 52 people in the Minot area.
According to HONOReform Director Evelyn McKnight, the initial outbreak was identified during a government shutdown, which forced a limited CDC response.
She says that in-part left the investigation incomplete and HONOReform urged the Department of Health to employ outside, trained professionals to continue the investigation.
McKnight agreed with expert Dr. Mark Sulkowski who recommended extending testing to individuals outside skilled and long-term care facilities.
HONOReform also encouraged the Department of Health to place the Trinity phlebotomist associated with the outbreak on administrative leave until the revisited investigation is complete.
