Islamabad tops 25 high-risk dists

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad topped the list of 25 districts, having high risk of Hepatitis B and C, Ministry for National Health Services told National Assembly on Friday.

In a written reply, the Ministry said that with a prevalence of 5.
6, and 4 percent for Hepatitis B and C, respectively, the capital was more prone to deadly disease as compared to other four provinces.
In Punjab, Vehari is the most sensitive area with 13.
1 prevalence for Hepatitis C, while Dera Ismail Khan tops the list in Hepatitis C category.

Other districts of Punjab include Hafizabad, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Okara, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Jhang.

In Sidh, Ghotki has a 12.
7 prevalence of Hepatitis C while 5.
9 percent for Hepatitis B.

Musakhel district, Balouchistan has a prevalence of 14.
7 percent for Hepatitis B and 5.
3 percent for Hepatitis C.

Explaining why the federal capital tops the sensitivity list, the Ministry said that total population of the capital was 1,025,000 in 2008, therefore 57000 HBV and 42000 HCV individuals were affected.
Replying to a question, State Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar Friday informed the National Assembly that original brand of Sovaldi tablet was available for treatment of Hepatitis C.

She said Ferozsons was manufacturing the drug and its price was Rs 38,000 for a pack of 28 tablets.

She said nine local companies were allowed to manufacture tablets for treatment of Hepatitis at affordable cost.
Five out of nine companies has already started manufacturing, while remaining companies would start delivery soon.
