Thanks to donations collected by Egypt's Ministry of Religious
Endowments, there will be no waiting lists for the treatment of
Hepatitis C patients in the country by August, Egyptian health minister
Ahmed Emad announced on Thursday.
The minister said at a press conference that the religious endowments ministry donated six new ambulances and EGP 2 million, which he said should help in shortening the waiting period for patients awaiting treatment and help in treating 1,250 patients.
Emad added that the ‘Long Live Egypt’ presidential fund has already contributed to the treatment of 150,000 Hepatitis C patients in the country.
Egypt has the highest rate of Hepatitis C in the world, with infections rising from 4 percent in 1993 to 8.5 percent in 2005.
The estimated number of infected Egyptians is around 12 million.
